FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What is digital printing?
Any printing method in which the image is printed to paper or some other substrate directly from a digital file without the need for intermediate films or plates.
Practical quantities for digital printing?
Right now digital printing is primarily a "short run" printing technology - when you need hundreds rather than thousands of printed pieces. The exceptions to this rule are when you need very quick turn-around or when the piece is small and we can run multiples on a single sheet.
What is the largest size paper you can print on?
12" x 18" in text weight stocks (11.5" x 17.5" max. image area) and 12" x 17.3" in cover weight stocks (11.5" x 17" max. image area). For inkjet prints up to 36" x 96" see our
Large Format Display Graphics section.
What kinds of paper can you print on?
We can print on a wide variety of paper, but we only stock about 15 various text & cover weights (all smooth white) in both coated & uncoated finishes.
What is CMYK?
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blacK - The four color process we use in full color digital printing. These primary colors are blended together to produce all the colors you see on the printed sheet.
Do you do black & white printing also?
Yes, our digital printing process does very high quality B&W work as well. It does an excellent job with photos because of it's continuous tone quality (no halftone dots like some other printing methods).
What about 2/c or spot color jobs?
All of our color printing uses the 4/c process, spot colors will be matched using their CMYK equivalents -- so you might as well use full color in your design, the cost will be the same!
How do I make a .pdf file?
Many desktop publishing applications (i.e. Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) allow you to save or export your file directly to pdf format - check your documentation to see if your application supports this option.
You may want to consider buying Adobe Acrobat which gives you maximum control over creating & working with pdf files. A couple of good resources for pdf software, freeware & shareware is: www.pdfzone.com or www.planetpdf.com
Which desktop publishing applications do you support?
We can handle almost any PC or Mac application you may be using (MS Publisher, Adobe Pagemaker, Illustrator, Freehand, Quark, Corel & others) We do prefer to receive .pdf files because they are compact, self contained, cross platform & relatively trouble free. (A properly prepared pdf file contains all the fonts, images & page elements needed to reproduce the page accurately.)
What types of storage media do you accept?
We can accept your files on diskettes, 100mb Zips and CD's.
How long does it take to print my order?
Of course this will depend somewhat on the size and complexity of your project, but on most jobs we can complete the printing within 24 hours (except weekends & holidays) of our receipt of your approval of the proof (which we mail or email to you after receiving your files).
How do I pay for my order?
We accept MC & VISA & AMERICAN EXPRESS.
What about shipping?
We can ship UPS, FedX, Priority Mail or Express Mail.
